Hoover on Friday night endured several offensive hiccups against region rival Mountain Brook, but ill-timed, offensive penalties did not derail the Buccaneers' attempts to erase last week's out-of-state loss to Allen of Texas.
Game MVP CJ Sturdivant scored a rushed touchdown and Barrett Pickering did the rest, connecting on four field goals as Hoover won 19-3 at the Hoover Met. The Bucaneers improved to 2-1.
While Hoover's offense suffered from false starts and holding penalties in the red zone, its defense dominated a Mountain Brook (2-1) team which entered Friday night's game with wins against Gulf Shores (56-6) and Helena (21-14).
